Family-Owned Since 1975

In 1974, Jim Mabee took a trip north in search of a better life for his family.  He made it as far as Charlevoix and was captivated by the small picturesque town. Right downtown the newly built Market Mall was just being finished and empty store fronts were available.   Jim called his wife Sue from the payphone in front of Neff’s Market and asked “Would you like to know where we are going to live?”

A few months later the family packed a U-Haul and headed to Charlevoix. Along for the ride were their 4 children, 2 dogs, a cat and a horse.  The Clothing Company was officially established in April of 1975.

The business grew over the years and in need of more space The Clothing Company moved into its present location on the corner where Dahlquist Five and Dime had been. The entire family worked in the store, including their golden retriever Beau, who happily greeted everyone that walked in.
