Layer Up and Head Outdoors

Updated: Jan 21, 2021

Are you as ready for spring as I am? Well, while we await the warmth of the sun to melt this snow let's get layered up. It's beautiful out there and I need some fresh air. I have decided this winter I am going to embrace everything about it. When I think about being outside in these frigid temps, I imagine putting on my snowpants, a big bulky winter jacket and clunky boots. I see myself waddling down a trail. I want to be warm after-all! I am so grateful The Clothing Company has what I need to stay warm and comfortable on my winter outings. Smartwool is my go-to for my first layer. It's breathable, antimicrobial and best of all, soft. I start with Smartwool undergarments then add my baselayer and socks. Midlayers are variable this time of year for me. After I slip on my Smartwool base, top and bottom, I like to pull on my Patagonia quarter zip Better Sweater fleece. For my bottoms I prefer my Columbia Sportswear Saturday Trail stretch pants. Patagonia's Nano Puff Hooded Bivy Pull Over is my favorite outer layer right now. The synthetic fill is perfectly warm and will stay that way even if I get wet. I do like to stay dry though, so I always throw my Columbia EvaPOURation rain shell in my backpack. It's great for a wind block and to add warmth if my other layers need a boost. I also will be packing my Patagonia Torrentshell Rain-pants for the same reasons. Well, almost ready to head out. Just need to lace up my boots! I am going to put on my Merrell MOAB mids. They are waterproof so they add warmth. And although they have great traction I am going to add a bit of confidence in my step with a pair of microspikes. Please remind me to grab my trekking poles before we head out! I think I am ready....oh my hat and mittens! Now I am ready! Are you?
